  • How do I pay?

We accept cash, Mpesa, and PayPal. Unfortunately, we cannot process checks or credit cards directly at this time.

  • Where are you located?

We are located in Kilimani on Chaka Road, a five-minute walk from Yaya Centre.

  • How often can a student attend?

There’s no limit! Most students come one day per week, but anyone is welcome to join any class based on the recipes we’re making that day. For someone looking for a “crash course,” we are happy to see you in class every day!

  • Should students bring anything with them to class?

Students should come with 3 or so containers to take samples home in after class. If you have an apron you like, you are welcome to bring it, but we have a stack of lendable aprons as well!

  • How do you choose the recipes?

Great question! The recipes are chosen for many reasons. First, the ultimate goal of The Open Table is to create cooks who are comfortable cooking on their own outside of class. For that reason, we choose recipes that allow us to cover a wide range of essential skills. Then, of course, there’s the fact that we want to make things that taste good, are healthy, and are easy to make using readily available ingredients. Finally, the selection of recipes is designed to cover unique areas of the palate, exposing students to the important balance of sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami. We’re always open to suggestions, though, so feel free to send us your requests!

  • What if something doesn’t turn out well when made at home?

Sometimes things that are perfect in class don’t work when you try it yourself the first time. That’s part of the reason we encourage students to attend a series of classes: that way, they can come to class with questions and we can provide answers so that it’s a success the next time. Also, students are free to call for help at any time–think of Open Table as a cooking helpline.

  • Do you cater?

We suggest 12 classes to qualify as a full kitchen management course. These can be taken over the course of 12 weeks, or in as little as four weeks if the student is able to attend every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning.

We will be closing on December 10th for the Christmas holidays. The schedule for December will be posted shortly.

Feel free to reach out directly to april@opentableke.com with any further questions!
